And the winner is ....

.... Obigos Lagoon, Portugal. Congratulations to Nigel Harper! Our judge Graham said this was "a very clever photo, well composed, beautiful lighting, which showed great talent".

First runner up was Peter Jarvis's photograph of Buttermere, Cumbria "wonderful reflections and very sympathetic use of Photoshop manipulation".

Second runner up was Andy Gray's Sunset at Stanley Harbour, Falklands "a spur of the moment photograph, which has worked really well and has lots of atmosphere".

Thanks to everyone who entered our competition, there were some beautiful images submitted. Thanks also to Graham Wainwright for his judging expertise.

We'll let you all know when Obigos Lagoon makes it off the easel!

Fresh off the easel - Church Through A Poppy Field

This is the latest painting to be completed and is now available for sale.  Contact us if you would like more information.

About this painting, Roger says "I have done something rather different with this painting. Rather than the normal viewing point, which is standing, I have painted it as though the viewer is sitting down in the field of poppies and looking at the church through the poppies, which I have done to create a more three dimensional quality, added to by the poppies being painted impasto. In the real thing you can see the brush strokes and build up of paint on the petals of the poppies".

We will select one photo which will be used as the basis for our next oil painting.  The winner will receive 20 greetings cards from Roger Harvey Art and the painting will be available to purchase to benefit 'Help for Heroes'.  See our Facebook page for full details.

Completion of an exciting new challenge

I have just completed a painting of a one year old, Harry, for his first birthday and his parents are thrilled.  Have a look on the oil painting page of the website.  Everyone is delighted that it has captured not only his likeness but also his personality.
Roger believes that the success is due to his knowledge of child photography, gained over many years.  The use of photography is the ideal way to create paintings, not only of children, for whom it is ideal as they are so active, but also for portraits of adults because people no longer have the time to sit in a studio, while a painting is being created.  This way, the painting is ready five to six weeks from the photographs being taken.  After all, many of the old masters used camera obscura to create paintings going back to the 15th century.
